How does is it feel to love a prostitute? And what would you possibly doesn’t do to make her only yours? To start off with how does a prostitute differ from any other woman after all? Maybe these are few of the burning questions you might ask yourself while you watch this master of creative cinema. I must say this is not just a movie. Its pure art soaked in feelings. It will penetrate your skull and make a forever hurting wound in it. It is that strong and that profound in its story telling. There are no two words this is brilliant movie making from Götz Spielmann from Austria. It has a sharp tale that unfolds bit by bit slowly but steady and grabs the viewer by the backbone surprising him with each twist on the way. There is ample room for imagination but most of the time you will be dead wrong. The first half of the story runs disoriented with few story lines here and there but when the moment comes to put them in to one plot the real mind circus unfolds. Maybe until very late you will not realize that Revanche has no background music at all. I mean nil!! That vast emptiness of the atmosphere creates enough pressure for the fan to engulf in the story like it’s our own experience. Once again I have to say this is BRILLIANT!

ගණිකාවකට පෙම් බඳින්නේ කෙසේද? ඇය ඔබේම පමණක් කරගැනීමට ඔබ නොකරන්නේ මොනවාද ? ඒත් ගැඹුරින් සිතන කල්හි ගණිකාවක් අන් ගැහැණියකුත් අතර ඇත්තෙන්ම ඇති වෙනස්කම් මොනවාද? මේ චිත්‍රපටිය විඳින අතරතුර මෙවැනි දැවෙන ගැටළු ගොන්නක් ඔබේ සිතට පැන නගිනු ඇත. මෙය නිකම්ම නිකන් නාට්‍යමය චිත්‍රපටියක් නොවේ. එමන්ම එය හුදෙක් සුළු කතාපුවතක් රැගත් පැය දෙකකුත් නොවේ. මෙය වචනයේ පරිසමාප්ත අරුතින්ම විශිෂ්ට සිනමා කළා කෘතියකි. එය ජීවිතය සහ හැඟීම නමැති සයුරේ ගිලි පෙඟී ගිය අගනා චිත්‍රපටි අත්දැකීමක්. මේ කතා වස්තුව සහ එහි ඉදිරිපත් කිරීම කෙතරම් බලගතු වන්නේද යත් එයින් මිදී පලා යාමට ඔබට හැකි නොවේ. එය රසිකයාගේ කොඳු නාරටියෙන් අල්ලාගෙන සෙමෙන් සෙමෙන් නමුත් ස්ථාවරව ඉදිරියට ගලා යන්නේ ඔහුව වරෙක අතරමං කරමින්. ඔබට‍ බොහෝ දේ  සිතා ගත හැකි. නමුත් රිවන්චේ ඒ සියලු උපකල්පන සිඳ දමනු ඇත. තවත් විශේෂත්වයක් වන්නේ  මෙහි පසුබිම් සංගීතයක කෙඳිරියක් හෝ නොමැති විමය්. ඔබට ඒ බව සමහරක් විට කිසි සේත්ම නොදැනේවි. ඒ මුග්ධ නිසොල්මන අතර ඔබට නොදැනීම ඔබ තනි වෙන නිසාවෙනි.ඔස්ට්‍රියානු සිනමාවෙන් ලොවට පිදෙන මේ කෘතිය විශිෂ්ඨ සිනමා කෘති අතරට එක් වන අගනා සිනමා මිනි කැටයක්.

Seldom have we come to see movies which speak of father and son relationship. This however is not that lovingly emotional story of father and son relationship but it has its depth well discovered through a troubled and detached bond that exists within the two. The father who is a con man and a  heard headed stubborn wanna be writer loses himself in his so called fantasies of becoming one of greatest writers and forgets his family in the process. While the son desperately tries to discover his life through the father’s letters and mothers lost love ends up working in a homeless shelter. The story flows with the incident where the father and son meets after 18 years and trying to hit a common base of where they went wrong and where they are headed. Being way two different characters with only the passion of writing to be common, the connection is frail. Robert De Nero delivers a powerful performance which at times the audience might agree or despise to the father character.

පිය පුතු සබඳතාවය ගැන කියවෙන කතා චිත්‍රපට ලෙස අපට නිතර දකින්නට ලැබෙන්නේ නැහැ. නමුත් මේ චිත්‍රපටිය එවැනි පියෙකු සහ පුතෙකුගේ ජීවන සබැඳියාව ගැන කියන ආදර්ශමත් එකක් නම් නොවේ. වංචාව සහ ප්‍රකට කතෘ වරයකු වීමේ දවල් සිහින ඔස්සේ ජීවිතයේ අතරමං වන පියා තම බිරිඳ සහ පුතා එහි ප්‍රතිපලයක් ලෙසින් තනිකර දමනවා. කුඩා කල සිට මවගේ ආදරය පමණක් ලබන පුතා පියාගේ සෙවනැල්ල හෝ නොදැක ජීවිතය සොයා ඉබාගාතේ ගමන කරනවා. මේ දෙපලගේ හදිසි හමුවීම සහ ඉන් පසු කතාවය් මේ චිත්‍රපටියට තේමාව වන්නේ. තරමක් සංවේදී සහ යතාර්ථවාදී රූප රාමු වලින් පිරුණු මෙය අතිශයින්ම නාට්‍යමය ස්වාභාවයෙන් යුත් චිත්‍රපටියක්. රොබට් ඩි නීරෝ ප්‍රබල එමෙන්ම සාර්ථක රංගනයක යෙදෙන බව කිව යුතුමය්.

The Lucky one is a loosely written weak script that depicts around a plot which could have made wonders in the hand of a different and a better director. The main reason for me to come to that conclusion is that there is a certain vibe to the plot that is different and extraordinary from other romantic movies we see often. But it seems like its full potential has not being tested and some parts of the movie, especially the core of the whole plot which is the start of the flick is moving too fast. The movie gives little room for the viewer to get emotionally involved in the opening sequences and grabs the mind away from it and places it in the long story too quickly. From there onwards it’s more like a usual romance movie which has quite a predictable ending. There are few twists for the characters but none for the viewer.

මෙහි මුලික කතා වස්තුව තරමක් නැවුම් ගතියකින් යුක්ත උනත් එහි නියම සාරය උකහාගෙන ඇති බවක් මට නොපෙනේ. සමහරක් විට කතාවේ මුලික තේමාව ආදරය නිසාවෙන්දෝ කතාවේ ආරම්භයේදී තිබෙන ඊට පරස්පර දර්ශන පෙළ ඉක්මනින් ගෙවා දැමීමට නිෂ්පාදකයා තීරණය කොට ඇති බවක් හැඟෙ. නමුත් කතාවේ මුල මීට වඩා ප්‍රබල ලෙස ඉදිරිපත් කලේනම් මේ කතාවට මීට වඩා අගයක් ලැබෙනු ඇත යන්නය් මගේ විශ්වාසය.  විශේෂ රංගන කුසලතා හෝ වෙනයම් කුසලතාවයක් පෙන්නුම් නොකරන මේ චිත්‍රපටිය හුදෙක් ප්‍රේමය සහ ඒ වටා ගෙතුණු තවත් එක චිත්‍රපටියක් පමනය්.

Wild Bill is not an untold story. It has large similarities to many mob and gangster movies. Especially coming from UK there has being much better and stronger pieces earlier. However Wild Bill is a good watch. It’s dramatic, emotional and speaks to the point directly. It has love, sex and drugs but all in appropriate portions. Therefore it’s not in extremely violent or perverse. And the plot is not largely predictable either. But one can always expect for a happy ending and it delivers it with a twist.

එක්සත් රාජධානියෙන් බිහිවුණු අනේක ප්‍රමාණයක් වූ මත්ද්‍රව්‍යය ජාවාරම්කරුවන් සහ ඔවුන්ගේ රස්තියාදුකාර ජීවිත හා බැඳුනු චිත්‍රපටි ගොන්නට එකතුවෙන තවත් චිත්‍රපටියක් මෙය. වසර අටක දිගු කාලයක් සිර බත් කා නිදහස් වී එන එක කලෙක පාතාලයේ ජනප්‍රිය නාමයක් වුනු බිල් සහ ඔහු තම ජීවිතය වෙනස් කර ගනිමින් යහපත් පුද්ගලයකු වීමට උත්සාහ කරන අයුරුය් මේ චිත්‍රපටියට මුලික තේමාව වන්නේ. ඔහු යහපත් කල් ක්‍රියාව සමාජය  කෙතරම් හොඳින් බාරගන්නවාද එමෙන්ම ඔහුගේ පැරණි වැරදි නිසා සමාජය කෙතරම් ඔහුව පිළිකුල් කරනවාද  කියා තීරණය කිරීම ඔබට බාරය්.

For some people having everything is still not enough. For Roger Brown a successful career, wife to die for and a reputation to kill for are all a reality but he still likes to get polluted once in a while chasing a criminal dream of stealing valuable art. And he does that entire well. Maybe he is taunted by the fear of losing his gorgeous wife so that he needs ‘extra’ cash to keep her happy by giving all the expensive gifts.But thieves don’t always come out clean. And he is about to get dirty as you can imagine!! This Norwegian flick is a winner of heist movies. Its straight forward, simple yet filled with twists over twist that grabs the viewer by the wrist. Maybe it’s crazy and outrageously violent but it has funny moments as well. But at the end of is all is correct in such a wrong way! Thumbs up.

සමහර විට සමහර අයට කෙතරම් දේවල් තිබුනත් ඔවුනට එයින් සතුටු විය හැකි නොවේ. රොජර් බ්‍රවුන්ට නම කිසිම දේකින් අඩුවක් නැහැ. හොඳ රැකියාවක්, සුවිසල් නිවසක් සහ රූප රැජිනක් වන් ලස්සන බිරිඳක් ඔහුට නම් ආධුනික දේවල් නොවේ. එත් ඒ සියල්ලට යටින් ඔහු වටිනා සිත්තම් සොරකන් කරන සොරෙක්. ඇත්තෙන්ම දක්ෂ සොරෙක්. නමුත් ඕනෑම දක්ෂ සොරෙක් කිසියම් දවසක කොටුවෙනවා. ඒ නීතියට හෝ ඔහුගේම කර්මයට විය හැකි. මේ චිත්‍රපටිය තරමක් සාපරාධි දර්ශන වලින් පිරුණු එකක් උනත් කතාව සහ එහි ගලායාම සිත් ගන්න සුලුය්. සමහර විට පුසන්ට පමණක් නොව රෝජර්ටද ජීවිත හතක් ඇතිබව ඔබට සිතේවි. මේ නෝර්වීජියානු චිත්‍රපටිය සොරුන් ගැන ගෙතුණු චිත්‍රපටි අතුරින්යම් යම් නියම වෙනස් කම් වලින් පිරි සුපිරි එකක් කිවොත් නිවැරදි.

Süskind is based on true events which occurred at the time of holocaust of World War 2 in Netherlands. Like many movies which are based on true events, it is dramatic, emotional and full of life. The plot is similar to many world war time movies that has come to light and resembles more towards Schindler’s List by the great Spielberg. To truly feel this movie and to understand it it’s a must that you have a good deal of background knowledge about the WWII and its relativity towards the holocaust. Because the movie provides little details of what really happened before and after the events which takes place in the plot. Most of it is left for imagination. Most of the scenes are quite painful to watch but it flaws calm without gore and extreme violence.

Did this movie scare me? No. I’m a fan of walking dead. Just one zombie family is peanuts for me! Did this movie grip me? Somewhat yes, but not totally. However the plot was quite good and it has its ‘grave’ twists. So what is this movie actually? For me it’s a science fiction than a horror. And the last 10 minutes its Greek mythology. Now that’s a bit of an unheard twist right there. Finally do not believe the IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes ratings. Because this is one massively overrated horror movie and it’s not really that great. It has split moods, totally predictable horror moments and out of the ordinary ending that abandon the viewer just like that. But it’s neither boring nor super bad. It’s just average.

This is a traditional full length clay animation which is quite a wonderful movie to see. In an era where CG takes charge of animation and makes vivid visual on the giant screen, this one traditional but does the job well. It comes with a unique plot that speaks of a totally unknown and funny side of the infamous pirates and their pirate adventures combined with a humorous twist all over. And the animation is quite awesome indeed. The attention to details of the clay figures and the props are fantastic. The craftsmanship and the art that went it to make this are truly commendable.

පරිගණක විජ්ජා විසින් සිනමා තිරය මුලුමුනිම පාහේ අත් පත් කරගත් මෙවැනි යුගයක කලාතුරකින් දකින්නට ලැබෙන මැටි සජීවිකරණය ආශ්‍රයෙන් නිපදවුණු චිත්‍රපටියක් මෙය. ඇත්තෙන්ම බලන්නට වටිනා සහ මුවගට සිනහවන් නංවන මුහුදු කොල්ලකරුවන් පිරිසක් සහ ඔවුන්ගේ සුර වීර ක්‍රියා ගැන ගෙතුණු මේ කතාව ඔබව ප්‍රීතිමත් කරනු නියතය්. මෙහි නිෂ්පාදනය  ඉමහත් වෙහෙසකර  බව අනිවාර්යයෙන්ම ඔබට වැටහේවි. එමෙන්ම මෙහි ඇති මැටි රුප මෙන්ම අනෙකුත් කුඩා ප්‍රතිරුප සහ පසුතල ඉතාමත්ම විශිෂ්ට සහ කලාත්මක අයුරෙන් නිපදවා තිබෙනවා.

From the day I saw Pianist Adrian Broody was on my top actors list. And here he is once again performing strong like a thunderbolt speaking directly to the dying brain cells of the modern movie fan. This flick is dramatic and poetic. But it is shocking and tragic at the same time. Based on the youth who is becoming restless, aimless and hopeless and few people called teachers who try to shape them up and make them productive, this plot has is wonderful touching moments. Maybe it speaks of the very few gods left in human disguise.

So it says that though we feel more connected as human kind, we are becoming detached from each other day by day. Maybe to understand how true that statement is the best place is this movie. Powerful and heartwarming yet sometimes heavy and depressing you might thank your teachers after watching it.

Lisa is an intolerable, self centered unsympathetic teenager who believes that the rest of the world is totally disconnected from each other just for the simple fact that she fails to make a lasting connection with anyone. Her life is privileged yet empty and soles less. Who is to be blamed? You have to watch it to find out.  Maybe one of the most annoying main casts in a movie but this flick just takes performance to a new level. Dramatic and artistic from the start to end it’s a 2.5 hour long journey of discovery and repent. You will meet many talented and well known actors in minor roles while each of them becomes important players to describe what Lisa’s life and views are all about. Strong in every perspective this is a solid drama that puts you in a trance with every scene. It has deep and detailed character realization for Lisa while the rest of the cast just creates a background stage for her frustration. Must watch!

ලීසා යනු අනුන්ගේ අදහස් වලට ගරු නොකරන, ආත්මාර්ථකාමී, අනුන් පහත් කොට සිතන බුධිමත් නමුත් හදවතක් නැත වියලි තරුණියක්. ඇයගේ ජීවිතය සහ එය වෙනස් කිරීමට තරම් ප්‍රබල වුනු අත්දැකිමක් සහ ඇය ඒ අත්දැකීමෙන් පසු තමන් පිළිබඳවම වූ පසුතැවිල්ල වසාගැනීමට වෙර දරන අයුරුය් මේ කතාවට පාදක වන්නේ. මෙය ඉතා ප්‍රබල එමෙන්ම සාර්ථක නාට්‍යමය හුරුවක් සහිත චිත්‍රපටියක්.  ලිසාගේ චරිතය පසු පස ඇති සැඟවුණු මානසික අසහනය ප්‍රේක්ෂකයා තුල ජනිත කිරීමට තරම් එය ප්‍රබලය්. මේ සඳහා නොයෙක් නොයෙක් කුඩා සහ සීමිත චරිත ගොන්නක් උපකාරී වන්වා. ඒ චරිත අප හොඳින් හඳුනන දක්ෂ නළු නිලියන් විසින් නිරුපනය කිරීම තවත් විශේෂ කරුණක්. මිනිස් සිතේ ඇතිවන සංකීර්ණ මානසික පීඩනයන් ගොන්නක් මේ චිත්‍රපටිය තුල තදින් ගැබ් වී තිබෙනවා.

This movie is not for the short minded or weak hearted. It’s long like a dark coal mine and brutal like deep cut on a hot sunny day. Its story telling is fast phased. And it doesn’t give the viewer a second chance to catch up. Most of the time the story flaws vigorously until it finds some soft spot to relax for few minutes before the next hurdle. For people like us who thank the subtitle god for making things clearer, the phase puts a challenge. The plot is just a usual formula of anger and revenge. But it’s told in a unique perspective combining generations of anger in one mix which is one reason how the story is long to start with. And it has some similar characteristics with western mob movies in cinematography and music. But overall its hardcore bollywood style and culture that’s make it more effectively violent. Good and natural performances that combines rage, romance and lust makes this flick a strong experience. Maybe told in Godfather style there is another chapter which I would eagerly wait to see.

 

බටහිර පාතාල චිත්‍රපටවල සුළු සුළු ගැලපීම් තිබුනත් මෙය එවැනි චිත්‍රපටියකට කිසි සේත්ම සමාන වන්නේ නැති හොඳින් ගෙතුණු ඉන්දීය චිත්‍රපටියක්. ඉන්දියානු සංස්කෘතිය සහ ඒ මිනිසුන්ගේ ප්‍රේමය, වෛරය සහ බලලෝභී නිර්ලජ්ජිත ක්‍රියා පටිපාටින් උඩින් දිවෙන මේ කතාව දිගු එමෙන්ම සාහසික සහ ප්‍රචණ්ඩ දර්ශන ගොන්නකින් යුක්තය්. ඒ නිසාම බොහොම සියුම් සිතැති අයට මෙය සුදුසු නැති බව කිව යුතුමය්. නිතර දකින අවැඩ සහ පලිගැනීම ගැන කියවෙන කතාවක් උවද එය වෙනස් අයුරකින් නිර්මානාත්මක ඉදිරිපත් කෙරෙන අතර ඒ කතා පුවත වසර 60කට අධික කාලයක් පුරාවට දිවෙනවා. එමෙන්ම මේ රඟපෑම් ඉතාමත්ම බලවත් සහ තාත්වික ස්වරුපයක් ගැනීමද මෙහි හොඳ අංගයක්. කතාව බොහොමයක් විට ඉතා වේගවත් අයුරින් ඉදිරියට ගලායාම නිසා ප්‍රේක්ෂකයා යම් කිසි අපහසුතාවයකට පත්වන අවස්ථාද තිබෙනවා. නමුත් සමස්තයක් ලෙස ගත් කල ඉන්දීය වාණිජ සිනමාව තුල නිතර නොදකින වර්ගයේ වටිනාකම් බොහොමයකින් මේ චිත්‍රපටිය පිරි තිබෙනවා. මේ කතාව අනිවාර්යයෙන්ම තවත් කොටසකට මුල්ගල් තබමින් නතරවනවා.

Vampires are actually filthy creatures with lethal intentions. And they don’t look pleasant or sound attractive. They are not handsome nor sparkle in day light but burn and die. Someone can argue saying its all fiction. But fiction has its own ethics too. And this flick has kept its ethics well in place. The killer force of a set of vampires unleashed in a small town is the theme and start to end its just a good thrill horror ride. There is no room for romance or room to cuddle but the precise attention is on survival. However, nothing extraordinary, this starts slow and normal then gradually develop itself to a stereotype horror flick. For that reason I won’t rate it much. But overall it’s a good watch.

 

කඩවසම් පෙනුමට සහ දිලිසෙන සමට ලේ උරා බොන වෙම්පයර්වරු දුෂණය වන සමයක ඔවුන්ගේ පිළිගත් සැබෑ ස්වරුපය සහ රුදුරු ගති විදහාපාන භීතිය දනවන චිත්‍රපටියක් මෙය. මුල සිට අගට හොඳ සමතුලිත භාවයකින් යුක්තව ගලායන කතාව විශේෂත්වයකින් තොර උනත් ප්‍රේක්ෂකයා ඇද බැඳ තබා ගැනීමට සමත්.
