Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011)

Action | Adventure | Thriller

We know what MI is all about. Kick ass action, fast cars and gadgets and insane technology. With that terms Ghost Protocol does live up to its legend. But yet not quite. I expected rather long and mind blowing actions sequences than this one offer. Well you can’t blame me because this claimed to the biggest action movie of the year. There are few places which you may go WOW but making the impossible possible will not go this smooth. Especially when breaking in to Kremlin with a 4 hour notice concerned! Anyway the story continues with Ethan Hunt.

3.5/5

Synopsis: The IMF is shut down when it's implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, causing Ethan Hunt and his new team to go rogue to clear their organization's name.

Missing (2011) TV

Drama | Action

I knew there was something wrong right from the first episode. It does have an interesting plot but the story is too fast phased and too good to be true. Especially a former CIA lady agent who has being out of touch for over a decade with a teenage son suddenly going ballistic like some special ops navy seal is hard to buy. I knew the show is gravely going wrong when she effortlessly get inside the Interpol HQ and check some data from a computer like she was working there for some time. Duh! Agent or hacker or genius it will take weeks of pre planning to pull out something like that. It’s not the only thing worries me. Overall if it goes like this it will lose to make another season. And I’m already out.

2/5

A mother's love knows no limits.

The Iron Lady (2011)

Drama | Biography

This flick is not just a biography of a person we know little about. It carries one of the most remarkable acting by a lead actress and ground breaking work of makeup I have seeing. If I say that Meryl Streep just makes a miracle I’m not boasting. She is breathtakingly amazing in her performance with every move; every word and every gesture coming out of her belongs to another person. It’s no secret that she is one the greatest of actresses in our time but this just put her in a whole different standard and I doubt if someone else can actually reach it. Apart from her the other brilliance of Iron Lady is the makeup. It’s really hard to believe until you see it. It’s not like making a demon out of an actor but this is extremely creative and precise in a totally natural way. This movie is great. It swings across timelines and brings us the depths of a character of a woman who we saw while growing up. And it’s a keeper.

4/5

Born to Race (2011)

Action | Drama | Sport

If you’re thirsty for some street racing action and didn’t get a proper dose after the first installment of Fast and the Furious, then maybe this will help a bit. Not that it’s great on its nature but it does has some cool rides and sick performances. The plot is almost identical to F&F Tokyo Drift (Except for the Japan and drift part) and there doesn’t deliver much uniqueness. But like I mentioned before the rides are cool. Especially the main leads on the 2003 Subaru and the 2011 Mustang GT. And the last race with a slow mo crash makes you forget everything and drop the jaw in the living room.

3/5

Agneepath (2012) Hindi

Action | Crime | Drama

It puzzles me sometimes why we especially south East Asians cannot settle for short things. Our sports are full days long, weddings are half day long and movies are 3 hours long. But still the end result is almost the same or even worse than a short sport, short wedding ceremony or a normal one and half hour movie. And this is a good example. I’m sure if the songs and the over exaggerated 40 minute lengthy final action sequence is taken out this movie will finish in less than 2 hours. But because of the brilliance of loving long stuff here we are staring at this for 3 hours and cursing on the way out. I mean I thought this movie will be at least exceptional or have some unique plot. But boy I was wrong. Except for the fact that Hrithik is in lead role and Priyanka give the moves, there is nothing else in it. There are one or two moments where you severely feel the emotions running which is what Indian flicks are really good of. And I don’t understand why each wedding ceremony has to end with a funeral and until the kid grows up to be a mature man the adults looks the same!

2.5/5

Synopsis: A young boy's father is lynched before his eyes; fifteen years later he returns home for revenge.

Once Upon a Time in Anatolia (2011)

Bir zamanlar Anadolu'da (original title)
Crime | Drama

Our brains are like troubled waters. So many disturbances and so much turmoil each moment. Yet once in a while a movie comes that makes you settle down. Glance at the details and live it through each minute of it. Those movies let you feel the characters.. live their lives and share their joys and sorrows. And even to discover secrets or to come to conclusions about them. But beware such movies are often painfully slow and rather boring such as life itself. Yet somehow once you get through it there is actually something to ponder about. This flick is one of those. It will keep you at the edge of curiosity for two and a half hours yet will leave you with a good load of questions unanswered. You might feel empty or simply full filled depending on your taste. But one thing for sure is that more you will think of it later on more you will start to like it.

4/5

Synopsis: A group of men set out in search of a dead body in the Anatolian steppes.
