The plot is ok and the cast is also not that bad but as a movie it’s not really what you want to watch. I wonder if this movie has a potential of being better than this at all.  Maybe the cast as Jennifer obviously looks older so there is a chemistry imbalance there. Even so the movie doesn’t offer any real humor other than some sexually exaggerated adult dry jokes. Occasional laughs but just for few seconds. What about romance you might ask! What romance?

Greek mythology and gods alike are very interesting subjects and they made visually spectacular movies in the recent past. Yet most of these flicks are just mere representation of fantasy but failed to deliver a strong plot that we ‘humans’ grasp with heart. Same goes with this movie as well. As for the second installment of Clash of the Titans the plots freshness is already diminished and it seems this story should not continue anymore. Rather uninteresting story line with some action sequences that worth the look in between this movie is not a success.

 

ග්‍රීක දේව කතා ඇසුරෙන් නිමවුන Clash of the Titans චිත්‍රපටියේ දෙවෙනි අදියරය් මේ. බලන්න ලස්සන ක්‍රියාදාම සහ පරිගණක විජ්ජා වලින් ගහන උවත් කතාවේ ඇති දුර්වලකම් නිසා මෙය චිත්‍රපටියක් වශයෙන් සාර්ථක එකක් නොවේ. කෙතරම් විශාල මුදලක් වැය කිරීමට හැකි වුනත් චිත්‍රපටියක මුලික සාර්ථකත්වය තිබෙන්නේ එහි කතාවස්තුවේ බව දැන් දැන් බිහිවන බොහොමයක් ලොකු ලොකු චිත්‍රපටි වලට අමතක වීම කනගාටුවට කරුණක්.

Many of us have not heard of an international spy from Sweden as of now. And now there is one and that’s Hamilton. Falling in to numerous spy thrillers in the history of cinema, this one is another fantastic movie experience that takes you in to too deep corners of the world and ties you up with terrorists that has no mercy. The action is splendid with close range shooting to long range sniper and jaw detaching hand to hand combat. The look and feel of the movie is very good. There is no extra hurry or neither slowness but correct rhythm of movement. Good acting from the main cast as well. I had no idea that Sweden was this close to beating Hollywood!!

From the handful of big budget war movies that is made away from Hollywood, coming from Japan this movie is just plain epic. Said to be based on true events this is not the routine war movie that’s only about the battles or the power struggle. It carries an amazing story line right throughout that screams of humanity and the good of heart even in the most daring situations. The plot starting from Korea through Russia, France and ending in UK it’s also a sports movie which is very unlikely to pal up with a war movie. The passionate minds of two rival marathon runners through the harsh journey in the time of wwii is nothing but mind blowing. The production quality is insane. I don’t recall such epic and lively war scenes in any recent movie that I have seeing. Only drawback I’d see is the extra long running time of 2.5 hrs. But this is a good entertainer and a heart warmer. Do not miss it!

 දෙවන ලෝක යුධ සමයේ එක්ව යුධ බිමේ සටන් වදින නමුත් එකිනෙකාට ඇලුම් නොකරන තරඟකාරී මැරතන් ධාවකයින් දෙදෙනෙක් වටා ගෙතුණු සත්‍යය කතාවක් ඇසුරින් නිමැවුණු අද්විතීය සිනමා කෘතියකි මෙය. මෑත ඉතිහාසයේ මා දුටු ඉතාම අනර්ඝ නිෂ්පාදන විශිෂ්ටත්වයෙන් යුතු යුධ තේමාවක් රැගත් චිත්‍රපටිය මෙයයි කිවහොත් එය අතිශයෝක්තියක් නම් නොවේ. මෙහි එන කතා පුවත ඉතාම සංවේගී එමෙන්ම මොහොතකට විශ්වාස කිරීමට තරම් අපහසු එකක්. කෙතරම් වෙනස් කම් තිබුනත් අමනුස්සයන් අතර ගැවසෙන ඉතා විරල මනුස්සන් ඔබට මේ චිත්‍රපටියෙන් හමු වේවි. ඔවුන් අනෙකා වෙනුවෙන් තම ජීවිතය පවා පරදුවට තබමින් කරන වීර ක්‍රියා ඔබට කිසි දා අමතක කල නොහැකි වේවි. නියම සිනමාවයනු ඇත්තෙන්ම මෙයයි.

Big Miracle (2012)

For some reason when animals and humans combined they make amazing movies. Hatchiko, Eight Below and We Bought a Zoo being good examples I can think of, Big Miracle plays a whole new league with a largest scale that you can imagine. It’s about the immense endless ice lands and the colossus whales and the added bonus is the fact that it’s a true story. This flick is definitely a winner in any perspective you watch it or any age you can be. There is so much warmth created by emotions and love on the atmosphere even though its way below zero temperatures. This proves that humans are larger saviors of the nature when they put their minds together than in destruction of it. I will sure to watch this again and again in future.

While the animation resembles bits and pieces of ‘Scanner Darkly’ the plot and feel of this flick is totally different. And the animation quality is quite awesome bringing very different style of visuals all together. One reason I hanged on was the CG and its masterful presentation. The plot is kind of super heroic and Sci Fi at the same time. But you don’t find anything out of the ordinary.

This movie covers a deep yet ugly reality of contemporary European mafia and its roots spreading in ultimate directions. Something’s you might see looks utterly unrealistic and it’s hard to imagine such livelihoods and lifestyles exist out there. This portray the bitter side of people who are caught up in the struggle of power, violence and corruption while points a finger at you indirectly for being blind. The intention of this movie is not to make the audience sad or make the gangsters look like heroes. But to live their lives, feel their minds and be one with a set of people who are pushed by circumstances that are so extreme.

Japanese artists and movie makers have stunned the world of anime for a very long time now. No other movie makers even the big budget Hollywood has come close to the masterpieces the Japs we capable of creating. This flick is one of those touching and utterly mind and eye pleasing piece of anime work. Yet again the plot is fantastic with a touch of fantasy and reality mix together to be strangely realistic. The drawings are mind blowing and also close to heart. All hardcore anime fans will not miss this.

This is what it is and the name has no hidden meaning. This movie is based around a group of riot cops who face protesters day in and day out and daring situations which many of us will not stand to face. Violent, arrogant but they obey the orders whatever they maybe. From the view of the society they are just a bunch of filthy servants of law who has no feelings or wetness in heart. This may be true and maybe not you will get to decide once you watch it. This flick is no doubt a powerful drama that speaks of a different side of society.

A Separation (2011) (Iran)

Not only in recent past but this is one of the best works of cinema I have ever seeing. Coming from Iran and made their way up to become the best foreign language movie award at the Oscar’s, this movie deserves every inch of that award. For plain 2 hours this movie will fill you with emotions, blow you away with tension and rob yourself off your senses and at the end leaves you thinking and shattered. This is not anything other than pure amazing movie making. The script is perfect. It’s just perfect. Acting is astonishing as the cast portray their potential right throughout in each tough scene starting from the very beginning. I don’t recall of seeing such mesmerizing acting by any recent movie. Do yourself a favor and watch this immediately. You do not know what you’re missing until you do.

The story span across few decades with the growing up gangster youths and the present day events are not less dramatic as well.  Well performed and edited this powerful drama will keep you guessing for the next move with a mix of violence and bitterness. An in depth look at the life of gangsters and their shattered dreams.

Witty script teamed up with previously tested plot and charming acting contribution, this movie is a wonderful experience. It takes you on a joy ride with two people who believes they are friends but unknowingly in love and the perfect couple without a doubt. The story flows smooth and the surprises comes without a warning this is a good romantic movie. And everything happens for good and ends well. Oh Did I mention good script before?

 

හොඳම යහළුවන් කියා සිතාගෙන, නමුත් තමන්ට නොදැනම පෙමින් වෙලෙන නුතන පන්තියේ නාගරික යුවලක් වටා ගෙතුන ආදරණිය කතාවක්. වැඩිහිටි විහිලුනම් ඕනෑවටත් වඩා වැඩි. නමුත් අවසානයේ ලස්සන මතකයක්.

If you seek shooting action and crave for hand to hand combat movies, look no further this is it! Coming from Indonesia this just kicked Hollywood butt. Intense and lightning speed from the start it doesn’t let you to settle down in your movie chair. Once you think it’s done the next brutal action sequence rolls in. The martial arts and the knife waving gangsters are simply awesome. And if you are a fan of Tony Jaa flicks then this will be an additional bonus for you as you already know the rhythm of Indonesian action. As this already having rumors about Hollywood production, I think the Americans seriously need to learn from Indonesia about making kick ass action flicks.

Maybe the funniest comedy I saw recently and the best comedy about weddings and bridegrooms and his best mates after Hangover. This flick is surprisingly kick ass funny and every damn thing these dudes get themselves in to are evenly hilarious. See how they ‘almost’ ruined their best friend’s wedding day! You will laugh out loud more than few times!!

 

කාලෙකින් බලපු ඇත්තටම බඩට දැනෙන විහිළු චිත්‍රපටියක්. මනමාලයෙක්ගේ මගුල් දවස ඔහුගේ විනෝදකාමී හොඳම යාළුවන් විසින් විචිත්‍රවත් කරනවා වෙනුවට විනාස කර දමන අයුරු නරබන්න. එවැනි විනාසකරාරි අදහස් වලින්නම් ඔවුනට කිසිම අඩුවක් නෑ!!
