What can you obviously expect from Sacha Baron Cohen other than belly tickling dirty humor? And that is exactly what ‘The Dictator’ delivers.  And this time his mustache has vanished and the facial hair has got extended to a sadistic bearded. You get to laugh at something or someone at least once in two minutes even if you don’t related the humor to any real person or event as it should be. And there are few witty surprise appearances as well. I loved it where Edward Norton comes in!!! And that’s hilarious. Comparatively not outrageous and funny like Borat but this flick has its moments that you will laugh out loud even while you’re sleeping.

ඉල ඇදෙනකම් හිනා වෙන්න පුළුවන් නිර්ලජ්ජිත වැඩිහිටි විහිළු තහළු වලින් පිරුණු චිත්‍රපටියක්. ඔබ මින් පෙර බෝරාට් නරඹා ඇත්නම් මොහුගේ චිත්‍රපටිවල ඇති අසන්වරශීලි හාත්සයුත්පාදක බව ගැන පැහැදිලි කල යුතු නැහැ. මෙහි කතාව ආන්දෝලනාත්මක ජවනිකා සහ විහිළු වලින් ඔබව කුල්මත් කරවන අතරම සැබෑ ලොවේ ඇති කටුක සත්‍යයන් බොහොමයක්ද ඉතා සුක්ෂමව සිනහවට ලක් කරනවා.

After seeing the box office buzz and mixed critics and the appraisals on the series of books, I was quite eager to experience this. And now that I have done I’m pleased but not thrilled. This movie manages to deliver to a certain point but it doesn’t manage to fill the cup to the brim. One major flaw is the lack of violence when the plot is completely centered on a brutal human hunting game. It should be violent and it should drive the emotions thereafter. It can be effectively violent without having to be over gory like the SAW. However the movie has a good flow. It starts calm and clean and gradually grows bigger. But it loses the audience in many places while becoming too artificial and distant. The biggest rivals for this are the previously released movies which has similar plots like the Japanese ‘Battle Royale’(2000) and Hollywood’s ‘The Condemned’ (2007) which was far more powerful in presentation. Though The Hunger Games has lot of potential to become great it stops at being good. And the viewer is still hungry for more.

 

විශාල වශයෙන් ප්‍රසාදයට ලක් වුනු නවකතාවක් ඇසුරෙන් ඒ නමින්ම නිපදවුණු මේ චිත්‍රපටිය ඒ නවකතාවට සාධාරණයක් ඉෂ්ට නොකරන බවය් බොහෝ දෙනාගේ හැඟීම. මා ඒ කතාව කියවා  නොමැති බැවින් ඒ ගැන නොදත් කෝඩු කාරයෙකු වශයෙන් මෙය නැරඹු නිසා නවකතාවෙන්  ආභාෂයක් හෝ විශේෂ කැමැත්තක් ඇති නොවූ බව මුලින්ම කිව යුතුය්. නමුත් චිත්‍රපටියක් වශෙයෙන් මෙය සාර්ථක නොවන බවය් මට හැඟෙන්නේ. එයට මුලිකම කරුණ ලෙස මතුපිටින් පෙනෙන්නේ මෙහි තිබෙන සුකුමාල බවය්. මෙහි එන කතාව මිනිසුන් විසින් මිනිසුන් දඩයම කරන යුගයක එවැනි ක්‍රීඩාවක් පදනම කොටගත් එකක්. එහි මුලිකම අංගය වන්නේ වීරත්වය සහ ප්‍රචණ්ඩත්වය උවත් ඒ අංග දෙකෙන්ම චිත්‍රපටිය අසාර්තකය්. ඒ නිසාම කතාවේ ඇති බිහිසුණු කම ප්‍රේක්ෂකයා වෙත නොදැනී යනවා. එය අවසන් වනවිට දැනෙන්නේ යම් සුරංගනා කතාවක සිදු වූ යම් කිසි ගැටුමක් වැනි හැඟීමක් පමණි. ප්‍රේක්ෂකයා භීතියෙන් තැති ගැන්වීමට හැකි එකුදු ජවනිකාවක් හෝ මෙහි අඩංගු නැහැ. අරටුවක් නොමැති විශාල ගසකට පැවැත්මක් නැතුවා මෙන්ම මේ චිත්‍රපටියද එලෙසම නිමාවට පත් වෙනවා.

I’m expecting more and more from animations after all what I have seeing in the past and the big studios have achieved. In that perspective “The Lorax” is a failure. The plots seem unique but it fails to make the whole movie experience unique. We have already seeing artificial cities that exist far away from nature . In fact almost all animations which had cities in them were quite artificial. So the main theme of the movie which is the missing nature element is not really prominent. And even if the nature comes in it still looks artificial!! They made the tree looks like some artificial ball of fur on top of a stick! So though I know that it’s a tree and it has to be this amazing thing that makes the nature balance I still don’t feel it deep in me. They say that trees are messy and their leaves falls everywhere etc etc but the trees you see here does seems quite neat and always tidy. So the element of reality is gone. And then the Lorax! What the hell he is actually doing? Im sure even he don’t know. He cannot do anything or nor he has powers to influence anything. He just comes in tells a story as it flow and vanish. He is just different because he is orange.

 

සජීවිකරණ කාටුන් චිත්‍රපට අපට දැන් නුහුරු නුපුරුදු අඩවියක් නොවේ. මේ චිත්‍රපට ඇත්තෙන්ම නිපදවෙන්නේ විශාල පිරිවැයක් දරා නිසා ඒවා ඇත්තෙන්ම ළමුන් සඳහා පමණක් යය් කිව නොහැකි. ද ලොරැක්ස් එවැනි කුඩා සහ වැඩිහිටි දෙපලටම සරිලන අයරින් නිපදවුණු කතාවක්. නමුත් එය එහි අඩංගු මුලික අරමුනු වලට කෙතරම් ලඟා වුනාද කීම සැක සහිතය්. ස්වභාවධර්මය සහ එහි වටිනාකම ගැන කියවෙන ආදර්ශමත් කතාවක් මෙහි ඇති නමුත් මට නම් එහි කෘතීම බව මිසක ස්වභාවික ඉසව්වක්‌ සොයා ගැනීමට නොහැකි උනා. මෙහි කෘතීම සහ ස්වභාවික යන දෙකොටසම වැඩියෙන් කෘතීම වීමට බරය්. මුලිකම හේතුව ලෙස මට පෙනෙන්නේ කතාවේ වැදගත්ම අජීවී අංගය වන ගස සහ එහි කෘතීම පෙනුමය්. එය ගසක් කියා අපට පෙන්වන නමුත් අප සැබවින් ගස් දැක ඇති නිසා අපට එවැනි කෘතීම පෙනුමැති ගසකට හැඟීමක් ඇතිවිය හැකිය යන්න මුලික ප්‍රශ්නයය්. එමෙන්ම කතානායක ලොරැක්ස් සහ ඔහුගේ චරිතයේ වැදගත් කම ගැනත් ප්‍රශ්න මතුවෙනවා. ඔහු කවුද එමෙන්ම ඔහුගේ කතාවට ඇත්තෙන්ම යමක සිදු උනාද යන්නත් තේරුම ගත නොහැකි. ඒ කෙසේ වෙතත් මේ චිත්‍රපටිය තම අරමුණ ශක්තිමත්ව ප්‍රේක්ෂකයා වෙත ගෙන නොයන බවය් මගේ සමස්ත හැඟීම.

The first thing that you should be aware before watching this flick is that, there is nothing I repeat nothing that does not explode in this. Starting from boats, ships, cars, buildings, battle stations, communication centers and up to satellites everything explodes and there is hell of a lot of debris and noise.  Practically this is a fire work show that has aliens in it. I mean it’s not really a bad thing. The visual effects are mind blowing and the concept and the plot itself is good. But there is nothing genius about it and there is plenty of plot holes that could even sink a ‘battleship’! However keeping all that negativity aside, if you are a fan of movies like Transformers and get the thrill out of stuff that is practically impossible to be real, then you have come to the promise land my friend!

 

අත තියන තියන තැන සහ බලන බලන තැන පිපිරෙන මේ චිත්‍රපටිය කෙටියෙන් කිවහොත් අති ක්‍රියාදාම සහිත විද්යාත්මක යුධ චිත්‍රපටියක්. පරිගණක විජ්ජා භාවිතයෙන් සිත මන්මත් කරවන දසුන් මවන මෙහි සමහරක් දර්ශන කෙතරම් සත්‍යය ලෙසින් ඉදිරිපත් කරනවාද කිවහොත් ඒවා පට්ට පල් බොරු කියා ඔබට වැටහෙන්නට ටික වෙලාවක් ගත වේවි. කතාවක් වශයෙන් නැවුම් ගතියකින් යුක්ත වුවද උවමනාවට වඩා

වැඩි කෘතීම සහ දුර්වල අවස්ථා වලින් ගහනය්. නමුත් විද්යා ප්‍රභන්ධ සහ අති ක්‍රියා දාම චිත්‍රපටි අගය කරන ඔබට මෙය සැබවින්ම ස්වර්ඝ භුමියක්!

Starts like a witty teenage comedy but gradually changing face to a strong heartfelt drama, Udaan is no ordinary movie from Bollywood. It must be the clear voice of many teenagers out there who comes from abusive families with dreams of their own which seems like impossible to achieve. While many keep silent in front of their guardian’s brutalities and rigid behavior, some may fly free the very moment they can. This story is of such teenager who once thought that the world is all about poetry and imagination on paper, but soon realizes that dreams of becoming a writer is no reality in front of his over controlled abusive father. Rather than looking up to him all Rathod would ever want to do is look away from his father and find his life elsewhere than the place he calls home. With a very touching story line and wonderful acting Udaan is a masterpiece of its own kind. Strongly built upon a young mischievous of age yet innocent boy and a strong autocratic egotistic father this formulae is no failure. Loved every minute of it.

 

මේ චිත්‍රපටිය අනිවාර්යයෙන්ම තාරුණ්‍යයේ රසයෙන් මුසපත් වුනු නමුත් ජීවිතයේ සුන්දර බව තම දුෂිත දෙමව්පියන්ගේ වරදින් අහිමිකරගත් බොහොමයක් දරුවන්ගේ පීඩිත හඬයි. විටෙක රසවත් විහිළු තහළු වලින්ද තවත් විටෙක හද කම්පාකරවන සංවේදී අවස්ථා ගොන්නක්ද සමගින් දිග හැරෙන මේ චිත්‍රපටිය නිතර ඇසෙන දකින බොලිවුඩ් පැණි රස කතාවක්නම් නොවේ. එහි තුල ගැබ් වී ඇති ඇත්ත කොතරම් තිත්ත උවත් මෙහි තරුණ කතානායක රතෝඩ් සමග ඔහුගේ දුක්බර සහ කටුක ජීවිත අත්දැකීම් බෙදාගැනීමට හැකිනම් කියා ඔබට සිතේවි. ඔහුගේ උදවුවට කිසිවෙක් නැතිවිට ඔහුට උදවු කිරීමට ඔබට නොහැකි නිසා ඔබට සියුම් දුකක් දැනේවි. නමුත් ජීවිතය කාව්‍යයක් මෙන් සුන්දරව දකින මේ අහිංසක දඟකාරයා කෙසේ හෝ තම විමුක්තිය සොයා කරන කැප කිරීම් බලා ඔබට සතුටක්ද දැනේවි. “උදාන්” බෙහෙවින්ම සිතට දැනෙන සාර්ථක සිනමා කෘතියක්. එහි සැම මොහොතක්ම ඔබව තවත් අලුත් මිනිසෙක් බවට පත් කරය්.

Ten minutes in to the movie you will definitely notice that this formula of storytelling was tested before very successfully in many movies. But once you finish, you will tell yourself that “I have seeing one heartfelt piece of art”. Naked Harbor in my opinion is a quite slow yet a wonderful film. The story builds upon many characters that portray different people with different lives and ambitions. May it be a child who is lonely and think the most important person in his life is his dog, or may it be a girl in her teens want to become a celebrity with no matter what the cost is, or may it be a drug addicted low life couple who wants to leave for good and start a new life elsewhere or maybe it be a man who try to reduce his weight while fails over and over due to his hunger for junk food, this story speaks of one theme and one plot only. That is that everyone wants to be touched and family is the place where it should start. Each of these stories is unique in its own perspective while one or two cross paths in between. But the ending is quite for the positive side for many while some just has to move on with regret and despair.

ජීවිතයේ නොයෙක් ආශාවන් සහ බලාපොරොත්තු පොදි බැඳ ගත්, එමෙන්ම නොයෙක් ප්‍රශ්න වලට මැදිවූ මිනිසුන් කිහිපදෙනෙකු වටා ගෙතෙනු කතා කිහිපයකිනුය් මේ චිත්‍රපටිය සම්පුර්ණ වෙන්නේ. ඒ කතා එකිනෙකට කිසි සේත්ම සමාන නොවුනත් යම් ස්ථානවලදී ඔවුන් එකිනෙකා මුණගැසෙනවා. නමුත් මේ චිත්‍රපටියේ මුලික තේමාව වන්නේ ඒ කතා සියල්ලටම පොදු වූ එක් කරුණක්. එනම් සියලුදෙනා ආදරයට ලක්වීමට කැමති බවත් , ඒ ආදරයේ මුලික පියවර තම පවුල සහ නිවස බවත්ය. ආදරය නොලබන මිනිසුන් ආදරය සොයාගෙන ජීවිතයේ ඉබාගාතේ සැරිසරන අයුරු මේ සිනමා කෘතිය ඉතා සන්වෙගිව කියා පානවා. මෙවැනි චිත්‍රපටිවල විශේෂත්වය වන්නේ, එහි තිබෙන කතා ගොන්න ඇසුරෙන් එකක් හෝ කිහිපයක් නරබන්නාට විශේෂයෙන් සමීප වීමේ ඇති හැකියාවය්. සමහරක් චරිත විශේෂ රඟපෑමක් ඇති ඒවා නොවුනත් ඒ සැම චරිතයක් තුලම ගැබ්වුණු සියුම් වේදනාත්මක සත්‍යයන් ඔබට මග හරිය නොහැකි.
