THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ALICE CREED (2009)

The Disappearance of Alice Creed (2009)

Director: J Blakeson
Writer: J Blakeson
Stars:Gemma Arterton, Eddie Marsan and Martin Compston

My rating - 5/5

The first 5 minutes of ‘The Disappearance of Alice Creed’ is one of the most terrifying, detailed, yet wordless fantastic beginnings that I have seeing in recent times, which gets the movie up and running in a spectacular manner. Even though this is a small budget movie and has only 3 actors in it ‘The Disappearance of Alice Creed’ delivers one of the most wonderful and powerful movie experiences to the fans who likes thrill and drama.

Surprisingly the plot is way easy and familiar. It’s simply about 2 crooks kidnapping a daughter of a rich man for ransom. Even though that sounds cliché and somewhat the usual ‘The Disappearance of Alice Creed’ brings few of the most astonishing and unexpected twists to this small made crime thriller. This fact itself makes the movie fresh and watchable since you realize that it’s not the usual dosage of ransom movies but something extra. Something that can actually go down in a remote place, with one victim and 2 crooks really wants their plan to work.

Plot wise it’s a winner. It manages to play with your mind not only once but several times, cleverly putting the viewer in tight spots. Beautifully crafted with very natural yet strong acting you don’t have a choice but to stare at the screen.

Cinematographically it brings wonderful urban scenes and some shocking moments to life artistically. Creepily satisfying some dark corners of the mind but disturbing at the same time. If you are a woman you might find it to be more disturbing than the male sector. But what it shows is crucially important for the story to run deep in to your head no doubt.

I will definitely keep this in my collection.
