A teenager stuck in a adults psych ward ultimately discovers life and love! Too good to be true but ‘It’s a kind of a funny story’ is all about that impossible feet. At the start I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this flick and its unique plot along with the acting. So it’s a good movie. All I’m trying to say is how good it is.

Craig is a 16 year old kid who is under numerous pressures for his age. Not because he has an abusive family who doesn’t support him but because of the total opposite. His parents wants to give him the best education out there and put him to a good school but for Craig all that makes him nervous and depressed. He doesn’t seems to be having any one who really wants to listen to his side of the story and becomes clinically depressed and dream of suicide even though he never tries it. Thinking of finding a remedy he reaches to a nearby hospital and surprisingly find himself admitted for 5 days in an adult psych ward.

There Craig meets different individuals who seems to be strange at first but later on becomes familiar and he start to share his issues, problems and views of life with. Among these people the 6 times suicide attempted Bobby who is waiting to go home and the sweet teen Noelle become much closer to him. Through these people Craig start to look at things differently and realizes that life that he knows is just a fraction of what he is yet to discover. Strangely finding comforting advice from Bobby and love and care and from Noelle, Craig becomes a different person.

The plot sounds too serious when you read it. But believe me the movie is totally light weight and funny. Which is one strong reason that make you believe that something good will happen at the end and every things gonna be ok. This will give you a totally different perspective of life without making you miserable looking at some bunch of psychologically ill people. Even though it’s funny still it strongly manages to keep the plot intact and deliver the message. The point of the whole movie is that understanding and appreciating the things what you already have than being depressed and negative towards what you don’t have, can make you a better and a happy person.

When it comes to acting the strange yet likable character of Bobby is prominent. It’s played by Zach Galifianakis, in a unique way which immediately starts to provide and impact. From the scene where he appears as a doctor and to the scene where he finally get to leave the hospital this character is unique and memorable. Not that the lead character (Craig) played by Keir Gilchrist is poor or has less weight, Bobby is the steering of the whole movie which turns it where it should go.

The movie is not boring or does it drag. It’s the right length with right momentum from the start to end. Each character is given some prominence even how big or small there appearance is. (Good example is the Egyptian patient Muqtada). With little bit of creative story telling via Craig’s mind and how he imagine it to roll ‘It’s a kind of a funny story’ will keep you entertained for sure. And just as the tagline states “Sometimes what’s in your head isn’t as crazy as you think”
