Once in a while I obey the recommendations from the fellow critics and friends, and travel back in time and check out movies which are released some time back. ‘Laputa:Castle in the sky’ is such movie which I watched recently and production dated back in 1986. Me being a fan on Anime, I must say this movie blew me away. Once again I tend to think that the best of the gems like anime was indeed from that golden era like in Vampire Hunter D, Akira and Grave of the Fireflies.
‘Laputa:Castle in the sky’ is a story of a young boy named Pazu and girl named Sheeta. Pazu who works at a mine and courageous at heart meets Sheeta unexpectedly when she fell down from the sky. Sheeta posses a magic Chrystal and it seems like many wants it badly. Amongst them are pirates and foreign agents and army. Later on the story reveals that there is a magical floating city by the name of Laputa exists and some who is in search of the Chrystal is looking for a way of finding this magical and powerful city. Pazu and Sheeta overtakes hardships, fight the bad guys and gain lot of trust and attachment from unexpected parties in their quest of finding Laputa and what lies after that.
Filled with fantastic fantasy characters, elements, objects, machines and concepts from the start to the end ‘Laputa:Castle in the sky’ is a wonderful anime work. The quality of the drawings and perspective representations are simply breath taking. At the later stages of the movie the attention to details are also very unique and well made.
The only character which I may not really like is the absurdly ugly looking robots. Maybe the ugliest robots I have ever seeing!
‘Laputa:Castle in the sky’ is a good ride in anime entertainment. Will keep you glued till the end and definitely make a mark in your movie memories.
